Band Crush: Stormstress
Stormstress strikes with electrifying riffs, thunderous grooves, and catchy choruses in this vicious all-female power trio.
Hey all you cool cats and kittens, we’re back with another one of these! Stormstress is a relatively new band so I haven’t seen them yet, but I have seen Flight of Fire a few times and if that’s any indication then they are a sight to see. Check it out.
Let's start at the beginning. Can you give us some background on your come up and journey so far?
All three of us, Tanya Venom, Tia Mayhem, and Maddie Scott were previously in another band called, Flight of Fire, that took an indefinite hiatus over the summer of 2019. During the hiatus, we were asked to perform as session musicians for a friend in Nashville, and on that trip we decided we would form a new band with just the three of us. We absolutely LOVED performing and working together previously so we already knew we vibed super well, shared the same love of heavy music, possessed the same powerful ambitious spirits, and shared the same dream so the thought of the three of us starting our own project was... electrifying! Thus, on the weekend of the full hunter moon and the tropical storm of October 13th, 2019 in Boston, Massachusetts, Stormstress was born. Stormstress is still very new, but since our inception we are proud to say that we have already released our first single, "Paint The Mask," and had a wildly successful debut show this past February at Once Ballroom, sharing the bill with our good friends in LUSUS, Firstbourne, and X'ella. As for the future, we are currently in the studio recording our debut full-length album set to be released later this year and are very excited to announce that we have been in talks about a US and European tour to follow!
What are people gonna see when they go to one of your shows?
Our goal at every show is to keep the audience constantly entertained, delivering empowering hard rock and metal fueled by a high octane stage show and captivating songs. In addition to our sonic presence, we aim to grab the crowd's attention with our edgy, eye-catching look right out of the gate. Our stage look combines all black clothes with heavy metal boots, chains and accessories, all topped off with our signature bold and brightly colored dyed hair. We want to give our fans a fun and unforgettable time at every performance, pulling out unique stunts that keep them on their toes. Having identical twins as co-lead singers, (Tanya Venom and Tia Mayhem), opens up a whole other realm of fun stage tricks and symmetry as well! Most importantly, live shows are our time to share our music and connect with our fans and that means everything to us.
How important is it to connect and collaborate with other artists and performers in Boston? Who would you like to work with that you haven't yet?
We think it is super important to connect and collaborate with other artists in the Boston scene, not to mention, it's a blast! It is an incredible and organic way to grow the music community, expand your awareness, and make new friends - there are so many cool and crazy talented people in this scene! In fact, we are proud to announce that we are working closely with Boston legend, Liz Borden of Lizzie Borden and the Axes! As for future collaborations, we would LOVE to have the opportunity work with local rapper/fellow female badass Jazzmyn Red! We are so moved by her outstanding talent, fiery passion, and empowering words. We have been in some small talks about working together and are really excited to move forward with a collaboration with her later on this year!
What other Boston artists are you crushing on?
If having too many Boston artist crushes is wrong then we don't want to be right, but we'll do our best to narrow it down! :P We are big time crushing on Carissa Johnson, Seven Spires, Jazzmyn Red, blindspot, Wake of Sirens, Firstbourne, and Amanda McCarthy!
