The plan was to get a bunch of these Band Crushes in the bank before sending any of them out so that I’m not stressing about it, but with all the show cancellations and social distancing going on right now I figured it’s a good time to kick things off. Bands and small businesses are hurting and one way we can all help is to buy their music. I’ve got a handful done already so here we go, check it out. Reach out if you’re in a band and would like to do one of these (and let me know if you had a show cancellation so I can move you to the front of the line), share it around and tell your friends in bands, and I’ll work on sending these out. It might not be on the most regular of schedules at first especially if I need to wait to get more in, but it’ll all get sorted. Thanks!
Hey it’s Fake Rays! They used to be called Sorry back when I first heard them (they get into that a little once you start reading the things they wrote further down there) and invited Steph to play bass for One Night Band. If you were there, you know she killed it. Check out what their whole deal is below, but first, if you haven’t already subscribed how about you go ahead and do that. If you already have, then a share is always appreciated.
Let's start at the beginning. Can you give us some background on your come up and journey so far?
Al and Justin have been making music together for a decade under various names. Andrea joined Al in forming Birdwatching in 2015. A one-off Steph and Andrea jam session formed the basis for Sorry, which was completed by the additions of Justin on guitar and Al on drums. After realizing our name was all but impossible to search - and after a couple of us changed instruments - we re-branded as Fake Rays for 2020, and from here on out.
What are people gonna see when they go to one of your shows?
A performance as endearingly awkward as it is energetic. Hopefully one day we'll have a sweet backdrop!
You've got carte blanche to put together a show in Boston. Who else is on it with you and where are you playing?
This sounds like a good opportunity to bring back some bands from the dead, but there's so many (RIP). We especially would love to play with Bundles, Dogtooth, and Daephne.
What other Boston artists are you crushing on lately?
(deep inhale) Eggy Benedict, Little Low, Daphne Blue Underworld, Me & the Teacup, Matt Murphy, Tied to a Bear, pushflowers, I Wish I Could Skateboard, Dewey, Rebuilder, halfsour, Fucko, Save Ends, Honey Cutt, Prior Panic, slo-anne, Leopard Print Taser, Actor|Observer, Squitch, Raavi and the Houseplants, Doomlover, Me in Capris, Perfect Saturday, Mini Dresses, Butch Baby, Noble Beast, Bad Idea USA. There are so many talented friends and scene-mates here, and we do what we can to catch all the gigs!

You can find Fake Rays on Facebook and and Instagram and best of all you can buy their stuff on Bandcamp.
